Dangerous world

There is no denying the fact that today's world is not doctrinaire, astute and cultured, rather it is full of hazards and alarming. Still nowadays, unconstrained social evils are widespread in the world. Not only in our country, but also in many parts of the world, sleaze, violence, dowry system, traffic congestion, pollutions and high rate of population survive terrifically. In earlier times, the people were peaceful in the sense that they did not know how to use weapons to mess up others. In modern world, the use of atomic energy has been impishly enhancing for which the safe and sound continued subsistence for humans are being meticulous day by day. If we look around the world, we will watch that the numbers of wars are increasing day by day for which the war against terrorism is a burning question right now. The history says, by a mammoth invasion of the terrorists, the world largest business center situated in America has been crushed. It is a matter of great regret that the super power countries like USA, Germany, France, Russia and Great Britain failed to retaliate such attacks.

It is imperative to note that in Hiroshima and Nagashika of Japan during First World War, atom bomb had been unnerved on the soil of Japan, the first sun rising country. The end product of such atom bomb was so fatal that even today; such venomous influences are all-encompassing in the world on a large scale. Modern world is the world of threat, perils and painful and as such, the war of Vietnam was dangerous that unlimited people had been killed. The war of Iraq is most disparaging and scandalous because each and every day due to terror campaign attack, uncounted people are being killed irrespective of high or low. The peace loving forces are trying to control the country relating to law and order situation, but it is becoming difficult to control the country on the part of the alliance forces against the rebel forces. The rebel forces think that hey are fighting against the occupancy of foreign foes and according to them, they will fight till date until or unless Iraq is liberated. From the consequences of such war, we can decide that all wars cannot bring good harvest rather than the people of the world who do not find any ways to live with peace, society, friendship and love. In the midst of many arguments and debates, it seems that today's world is full of perils and dangerous place.

Due to the fact that corruption exists immensely for which we can articulate that where there is no accountability, there lies corruption and it occurs in case of dealing money in exchange of anything. In my opinion, it is the sum of total resources expressed in terms of current monetary units and the discretion power which is the authority and empowerment to spend and minus accountability. Moreover, Smoking emerge due to delay in healing of stomach ulcers; it trims down the senses of smell and taste; slows down reflexes which causes smokers more prone to accidents; and gives an unpleasant smell from the breath, clothes, and homes of smokers. Very current survey illustrates that smokers endanger the health of non-smokers. Pregnant women smokers tend to have smaller babies than non-smokers, and their babies are more likely to be born dead or die a few days after birth. Besides such tremendously adverse affects, the children of smoking parents have more lung infections in the first years of life than the children of non-smokers. During one hour in a smoky room, a non-smoker can inhale as much cancer-causing substances as some one smoking 15 filter-tip cigarettes. Illness related to smoking is very expensive. In U.K., France, Germany, China and USA, it results in the loss of about 60 millions working days a year, treatment costs several hundreds thousands dollar a day, and it causes the death of over a million people a week. However, those who give up smoking greatly reduce their chances of developing diseases.

There is no denying the fact that the profligate limits of social life in our country envisage the identity as a great threadbare for overall affluence and fiscal accuracy in our country. It is certitude that the sociable evils like teen labor, acid sadism, dowry system, strangling maids, raping, indoor pollutions; corruption and drug addiction are mammoth constraints as mixed with our blood and bone. Drug craving and Alcoholism are the causes of social disorder for which a society remains congested from all sorts of progression. In case of personage prospect, drug obsession is atrocious work, which mingles many other fatalities like cancer, coronary, and phthisis. Drug addict is such phenomena with which a person fails to accomplish his bright lot, being laden with superstitious and mentally being disrobed, he becomes then unable to get rid of such bottleneck. Drug addiction is not only bad habits but also an evil force that spoils the men's life. There is no suspicion that the young people are found more to be captivated as compared to other evil forces that tremendously affect people to go astray and miscarriage. They are somehow subjective to take drugs like heroine, chorus, phencidel, wine cigarettes, alcohol and many other addicted materials very harmful for health and hygiene. When a person somehow leaves hope of life, in due course he thinks that drug addiction is only the way for which he can survive on earth and as such in the next course, he takes drugs after drugs and become addicted. When in one time, he becomes obsessive; he cannot give up those addictions because he remains in the state of hallucinations and emotionally distortions. Hence Alcoholics do not drink simply for pleasure, but because they presume that they cannot face life's problems ingrained in blood and bone without alcohol. It is a significant fact that more road mishap results from unwieldy ingestion than from any other cause. This is due to the fact that alcohol slows down reflexes, interferes with concentration and distance judgment, and increases recklessness. It is a fact that heavy drinking can cause cancer of the mouth, gullet, stomach, and liver. It upsets the digestion and reduces blood cell formation, causing anemia.

Suffice it to say that alcohol causes shrinkage of the brain, reducing the powers of abstract reasoning, and it destroys liver cells causing this organ to store abnormally large amounts of fat. In severe cases, alcoholics suffer numbness and paralysis of the limbs. Some alcoholics suffer a disorder known as delirium tremens when forced to stop drinking and besides this, vomiting occurs and the whole body begins to shake and in due course, it is followed by hideous and often ghastly visions. A drug can be defined as a chemical material that affects the mind and only the so-called hard drugs are irresistible. These include the opiates: opium, morphine, and heroine. A drug addict comes to depend upon a drug so that life is no longer bearable without it. Addiction occurs because, like alcohol, more and more of the drug is required to produce its desired effects. Furthermore, if the drug supply is out of the blue cut off an addict suffers withdrawal symptoms and these can be drastically lethal. That is to say, they become dependent upon alcohol without realizing it and as such for the first time, pleasing effects are produced by one or two drinks, but soon larger and larger amounts are needed to yield these effects, until self control is unduly irrevocable. Morphine, heroine, and other drugs that are often injected involve the risk of infection from dirt hypodermic needles.

Suffice it to say; in most places of the world, without corruption and malpractices, nothing is possible to be performed. Due to lack of honesty, sincerity and simplicity, the world has become unsuitable for living. Terrorism is another threat against healthy life in society. We need to be dedicated to work sincerely and painstakingly to eliminate such hurdles. Besides this, price hike is a great bottleneck against peaceful survival on earth because; the prices of all sorts of commodities are beyond the buying capacity of the people. In Bangladesh, floods, draught, cyclone, earthquake and epidemic diseases are the common visitors to the people of this beautiful land with ever green beauties of nature. The people living beside the sea shore always face misfortunes of water surge and thus they are being victimized almost every year; even if, in a year, they may be infected with such misfortunes. Besides sides, due to smoking and addictions of drugs, unlimited problems are being created every times for which the whole nation wants to get rid of from such hurdles. There exists a remarkable extent of evidences that a variety of awful diseases emerge often in smokers than non-smokers and these diseases are: Lung cancer; emphysema causing thinning and weakening of lung tissue; cancer of the mouth, throat, larynx, gullet, bladder, and pancreas; coronary thrombosis causing snarl-up of arteries to the heart; angina pectorals causing pain due to contraction of arteries to the heart; and chronic bronchitis with phlegm.

In view of the above it is significant that it is worth mentioning that the present world is the most dangerous place as it is full of hatred, jealousy, slothful, vindictiveness and competition of ill money which never support the features of a healthy society. Hence it is obvious that smoking has been unenthusiastic every times and as such, even in general advertisement to sell their product, the work of publication of product's brand name and packaging system to indicate the quality of the product has been banned. Not only smoking, every kind of evils need to be banished from this world to present the modern age a healthy society bedded on trustworthy, love, friendship and responsibility to serve the humanity in this hereinafter virtually.

What we see 10 years later! by Kh. Atiar Rahman

‘I do not know what course others may follow but for me, liberty or death’ was the  remarkable statement of Sir Muhammad Ali, a distinguished political leader in Indo Pak sub- continent  who had unflinchingly thrown challenges to the then British rulers who arranged a round table meeting in order to discuss overall situation of Indo Pak sub continent. He declared that he would never come back to his motherland as it was not a free country; if the rulers of British regime failed to give his country freedom, they might spare a piece of land for his grave there as it was an independent state. In the next as per history of independence of this sub continent, a few days later, he breathed his last. The history says that he had struggled for the sake of liberty and equality of his country to lead his life controlled and cleanly for which a nation can flourish day by day. From this point of view, it is clear to me that a nation’s birth occurs to bloom in full swing where there is no mistrust, deceits and terrorism, but in real life situation, we face unlimited perils of life which thrust us backwards from where our efforts have been continued to be enlightened day by day.

From this day we can assume what may happen 10 years later, now we are struggling to survive some how as there exists terrorism, dowry system, early marriage, corruption, drug addiction and a number of social evils are prevailing in our country which are every times creating impediments against our prosperous future and our younger generations are looking forward to have a quicker change in the midst of misfortune and intensive superstitious. The world is at present passing a time of critical crisis bedded on scarcity, choice, hardships and pessimistic situations in socio-economic levels of the country. From a view of a student, the present and ahead of it for long 10 years, he would preserve his knowledge with history, geography, science and technology and can appear as a responsible citizen. His plans may be substantiated and he can be reflected as a personality of a glorious perception which would sanctify him in a systematic manner. From the present level, he can see his innermost world within his capacity of mental feelings and attitude of life which indicates him what sort of character phase he tries to uphold in order to find out ways and means in future. There is no denying the fact that the fundamental rights of the children is supported by UN charter which envisages that a child must be protected by providing him/her hierarchical needs like physiological, safety, security, egoistic and self actualization need. In Un convention, it has been clearly stated that a child must be flourished and it is the duties of the parents and in this respect, the state parties should have a special look to the well beings of the children and as such they should ensure necessary funds to develop them with proper education, knowledge and other ancillaries in a systematic manner so that they should develop themselves as an ideal citizen. In this context, Child labour has been a great impediment for flourishing the prospects of building them as good citizen in a country. Due to the fact that due to poverty, the parents are compelled to send their children to work in order to maintain their family. There is no denying the fact that modern civilization has been flourishing day by day by constructing buildings, dams, and embankments and over bridges for various purposes. There is a good ground for every development works in the world for which the limitless efforts, men's hardihood and persistent feelings are involved significantly. Indeed, all sorts of educational institutions like schools, colleges, universities and every project and offices profiles have been constructed by enormous using sufficient bricks, trees and soils. Formerly, the world was full of forests and there were uneven soils like ragged mountains and hills. In course of time, the people felt needs to enter into the world of civilization. To speak the truth, they learnt the techniques of cultivating the land, making fire and fuel for preparing their foods and ultimately, they became conversant with the useful things very convenient to them by conquering the world of science and technologies. In this momentary world many uncommon talents came out and made the world astonished by miracle discoveries and inventions. In those work, men and women are equally engaged where it is evident that a child is only a child, not a boy, not a girl.

In present world, we are facing through lots of crisis like wants, fickle mindedness and mismanagement every where and despite glorious modern technology with big economy and big government, lots of troubles such as murdering, robbing, cruelty and invasion against the weaker  who have no sufficient resources to retaliate the rivals. The natural disasters are found sometimes as evil forces which destroy our lives and property for which humans and animals in the woodland suffers mischievously. Very recent survey shows that smoking is harmful for our health and hygiene and I am optimistic that 10 year later, there will be no smoking habits as to be molded in the habits of humans and suffice it to say that a new law has been promulgated through out the world to prohibit smoking considering extensive threadbare against vital force.   There is a tremendous amount of evidence that various dreadful diseases occur often in smokers than non-smokers and these diseases are: Lung cancer; emphysema causing thinning and weakening of lung tissue; cancer of the mouth, throat, larynx, gullet, bladder, and pancreas; coronary thrombosis causing blockage of arteries to the heart; angina pectoris causing pain due to narrowing of arteries to the heart; and chronic bronchitis with phlegm. Furthermore, Smoking appears to delay the healing of stomach ulcers; it reduces the senses of smell and taste; slows down reflexes which causes making smokers more prone to accidents; and gives the breath, clothes, and homes of smokers an unpleasant smell. Very recent research shows that smokers endanger the health of non-smokers. In U.K. and USA, it results in the loss of about 50 millions working days a year, treatment costs several hundreds thousands dollar a day, and it causes the death of over a thousand people a week. However, those who give up smoking greatly reduce their chances of developing diseases as mentioned above in question. Drug addict is such phenomena with which a person fails to achieve his bright lot, being laden with superstitious and mentally being disrobed, he becomes then unable to get rid of such bottleneck. Drug addiction is not only bad habits but also an evil force that spoils the men's life in question. There is no suspicion that the young people are found more to be addicted as compared to other evil forces that tremendously affect people to go to dogs and miscarriage. They are somehow influenced to take drugs like heroine, chorus, phencidel, wine cigarettes, alcohol and many other addicted materials very harmful for health and hygiene.  When a person somehow leaves hope of life, he thinks that drug addiction is only the way for which he can survive on earth and as such in the next course, he takes drugs after drugs and become addicted. When in one time, he becomes addicted; he cannot be able to give up those addictions because he remains in the state of hallucinations and mentally distortions.  Hence Alcoholics do not drink simply for pleasure, but because they guess that they cannot face life's problems without alcohol. That is to say, they become dependant upon alcohol without realizing it and as such for the first time, pleasing effects are produced by one or two drinks, but soon larger and larger amounts are needed to yield these effects, until self control is unduly irrevocable.

There is no denying the fact that more road mishap results from hefty drinking than from any other reason. This is due to the fact that alcohol slows down reflexes, interferes with concentration and distance judgments, and increases recklessness. As has been stated above that heavy drinking can cause cancer of the mouth, gullet, stomach, and liver. Furthermore, if the drug supply is suddenly cut off an addict suffers withdrawal symptoms and these can be radically fatal. Marijuana and hashish are those drugs produced from the plant Indian hemp and accordingly, visible effects of the drugs including reddening of the eyes caused by distention of blood vessels, and enlargement of the pupils. Effects on the mind vary and in general visual awareness is increased and ideas flow more quickly. These drugs are not addictive and there is no evidence that they harm the body. There is a danger, however, that the drug taker's sense of judgment will be distorted so that reckless or foolish behavior can result. Lysergic acid DI-ethyl amide (LSD) is an example of a hallucinogenic drug, so called because it gives rise to dramatic aberration. The effects of LSD trip are unpredictable and seem to depend upon the mood of the user immediately before taking the drug. It could for instance intensify awareness and perception to the point at which the user undergoes mystical experiences or it may intensify a depressed, fearful or agitated mood with horrifying results. Another problem with LSD is that very small quantities have powerful effects, and since illegally produced drugs vary in quality drug takers can never be sure how much they are taking. An overdose of LSD can result in insanity or death.

Another problem with LSD is that very small quantities have powerful effects, and since illegally produced drugs are extracted from the seed capsules of the opium poppy. Opiates are medically important as painkillers. But drug takers use them because they give rise to feelings of well beings, contentment, and power. Unfortunately when the effects wear off the taker becomes anxious and depressed and is tempered to take another dose to restore a good mood, a course that can lead to addiction. Morphine, heroine, and other drugs that are often injected involve the risk of infection from dirt hypodermic needles. Besides this, Barbiturates and amphetamines are used immediately to relieve anxiety and as sleeping pills. But they are dangerous because the dosage must be continually increased to be effective. Barbiturates are often used in combination with amphetamines and other stimulants. These reduce the sleepiness induced by barbiturates with a feeling of mental alertness. Amphetamines harm the health by reducing the appetite, by causing sleeplessness, and by reducing the body's ability to fight infection.

In view of the above, it is obvious that we are optimistic about the future; the future which will appear to us must be glorious and more transparent as we are passing the most perils of life where the evil forces are active against prosperity of education, history, culture, social development and overall heritage of life. We should not be unenthusiastic as we are enriched with hopeful bright future in the sense that when the whole nation will continue efforts to raise their heads for constructive and effective work and legibility of life with the dauntless touch wood of good harvest by dint of perseverance, intelligence and merits virtually.

Thermal energy

Thermal energy is energy possessed by an object or system due to the movement of particles within the object or the system. Thermal energy is one of various types of energy, where 'energy' can be defined as 'the ability to do work.' Work is the movement of an object due to an applied force. A system is simply a collection of objects within some boundary. Therefore, thermal energy can be described as the ability of something to do work due to the movement of its particles.
Because thermal energy is due to the movement of particles, it is a type of kinetic energy, which is the energy due to motion. Thermal energy results in something having an internal temperature, and that temperature can be measured - for example, in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit on a thermometer. The faster the particles move within an object or system, the higher the temperature that is recorded.
Application of Thermal Energy
Let's take a look at a simple example of thermal energy. A heated element on a stove contains thermal energy, and the more you turn up the stove, the more internal energy the stove contains. At the very basic level, this thermal energy is the movement of the molecules that make up the metal of the stove's element. I know you can't see the molecules moving, but they are. The faster the molecules, the more internal thermal energy they contain.
Now let's place a pot of water on top of the heated element. What happens? The stove works, right? Well, not as we would typically think of it. Here, 'work' is referring to 'the movement of something when a force is applied.' Specifically, the thermal energy of the stove causes the particles of the pot and eventually the water to move faster. The internal energy of the heated element is transferred to the pot and ultimately the water within the pot. This transfer of thermal energy from the stove to the pot and to the water is referred to as heat. It is very important to keep these terms straight. In this context, heat is the term we use to refer to specifically the transfer of thermal energy from one object or a system to another, transfer being the key. The thermal energy is the energy possessed within the object or within the system due to movement of particles. They're different - heat and thermal energy.
You can feel the heat if you hold your hand above the stove. The heat, in turn, speeds up the molecules within the pot and the water. If you place a thermometer in the water, as the water heats up you can watch the temperature rise. Again, an increase in internal energy will result in an increase in temperature.
What Is Chemical Energy?
Energy is the ability to do work, where work is movement of an object by some force. We use energy every day, and energy comes in different forms. Chemical energy is energy that is stored in chemicals, such as sugar and gasoline. As chemical energy is stored energy, it is a type of potential energy, which is energy stored in objects due to their location. An easy example of potential energy would be that of a bike on top of a hill where the bike's position is elevated and has the ability to roll down the hill. In the case of chemicals, the position refers to the various atoms that exist together within the chemical.
Application of Chemical Energy
Now that we understand that chemicals contain potential energy, let's explore the significance of chemical energy. In other words, what does chemical energy do for nature?
Let's play a word association game. What do you think of when I say 'The Circle of Life'? If you're like me, you probably thought of the Disney movie 'The Lion King'. Man that was a great movie! Another way of thinking about the circle of life is in terms of energy utilization within nature. Let me explain. Plants use energy from the sun to make sugar and oxygen from carbon dioxide and water. We, along with other animals, digest that sugar to release energy, so we can do work. Sugar is digested; in other words it's broken down, into carbon dioxide and water, which, in turn, is used by plants to make more sugar.
Are you getting the circle of life?

Solar energy is used by plants to create chemical energy in the form of sugar.
Chemical Energy in Everyday Life
We just talked about the fact that plants use solar energy to make sugar from carbon dioxide and water. Sugar, carbon dioxide and water are all chemicals that are held together by what we call chemical bonds or forces that hold the chemicals together. For example, all sugars are composed of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen atoms that are held together by chemical bonds. These atoms don't just stick together automatically. Rather, energy is needed to hold them together. Plants utilize solar energy to put the carbon, the hydrogen and the oxygen atoms together in the form of sugar. This is a really good example of energy transformation where energy is changed from one form to another. In this case, solar energy is converted into chemical energy that holds the sugar together and prevents it from falling apart.
We previously established that chemical energy is a type of potential energy where the energy is stored in the chemical bonds that hold the chemical together. Likewise, the potential energy can be released when the chemical bonds are broken. This is what happens when we digest the sugar that we eat. The chemical bonds in sugar are broken as the sugar is digested to carbon dioxide and water. When the chemical bonds are broken, the potential energy is released in the form of kinetic energy or energy of motion and heat or non useable energy. The kinetic energy is used to do work, such as contract our muscles and produce heat that helps to keep our bodies warm.

What is Electrical Energy?
Energy is the ability to do work, where work is done when a force moves an object. We need and we use energy every day, and energy is available in all different forms. Electrical energy is energy that's stored in charged particles within an electric field. Electric fields are simply areas surrounding a charged particle. In other words, charged particles create electric fields that exert force on other charged particles within the field. The electric field applies the force to the charged particle, causing it to move - in other words, do work.
What are Electric Fields?

Electric fields point in the direction that positive particles would move within them
Well, what are these electric fields? To better understand electrical energy, let's explore electric fields in a bit more detail. Electric fields are like gravitational fields in that both fields are areas surrounding an object that are influenced by the object. A gravitational field surrounds the earth, providing a force that pulls us down.
Likewise, electric fields surround charged sources and exert a force on other charged particles that are within the field. Have you ever heard the expression 'opposites attract'? This certainly applies to electric fields. The image on the screen shows electric fields surrounding both positive and negative sources. The arrows you see illustrate the direction that a positive test charge would move if placed within the field.
Positive objects create electric fields that repel other positive objects; therefore, the arrows are pointing away from the positive source. Negative sources create electric fields that attract positive objects; therefore, the arrows you see are directed towards the negative source. It's very important to remember the direction of the electric field always points in the direction that a positive particle would move within that field.
Electrical Energy is Potential Energy
Electrical energy is potential energy, which is energy stored in an object due to the object's position. Well, in terms of electrical energy, the object is the charged particle, and the position is the location of that charged particle within the electric field. The charged particle will have the potential to move, or do work, due to the force of the electric field.

Moving electric field charges against their natural direction adds potential energy to an object
This is much like the potential energy you would have if you rode your bike to the top of the hill. Muscular contractions in your leg muscles provide the energy to move that bike to the top of the hill. The higher you move up the hill, the more potential energy the bike will contain. At the top of the hill, gravity then provides a force that would move the bike back down the hill.
In a similar manner, to move a charge in an electric field against its natural direction of motion requires effort. For example, an external force is needed to move a positive test charge away from a negative source. The exertion of work by an external force would in turn add potential energy to the object, just like working hard to ride your bike up the hill. If the force holding the charge in place is removed, the charged particle will move within the field.
Now, effort is not required to move an object from its high potential energy location to a lower potential energy location. Just like you don't need energy to coast down a hill, the positive charge doesn't need energy to move towards the negative source. Both are natural processes. Rather, the stored potential energy due to the position of the charged particle is transformed into kinetic energy, which is energy of motion.

What Is Nuclear Energy?
Energy is the ability to do work, where work is the movement of something when an effort is applied. We need and we use energy in our lives every day. We use energy to contract our muscles and move our cars. We use energy to warm our homes and toast our bread. Scientists are busy researching new ways to make energy available for our use. The sun seems an inexhaustible source of energy. Energy from the sun lights the sky and warms the planet. The energy from the sun is a type of nuclear energy or energy created from nuclear reactions.

During nuclear fusion, the contents of the nucleus change.
What Are Nuclear Reactions?
That's easy enough, but what are nuclear reactions? Before we can define a nuclear reaction, we need to explore the basic structure of an atom. Atoms are the smallest building blocks of matter, and matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. Different atoms make up different elements; for example, hydrogen, helium, gold and silver are all elements. Each atom contains a nucleus, and the nucleus contains protons and neutrons. Electrons surround the nucleus of an atom. A nuclear reaction is a reaction that changes the nucleus of an atom. In other words, the number of protons and/or neutrons is changed as a result of a nuclear reaction.
What Do Nuclear Reactions Have to Do with Energy?
So what does this have to do with energy? The answer is simple and yet, amazingly profound. Nuclear reactions release energy. That statement is so important, I'll repeat it. Nuclear reactions release energy, and they release a lot of it! There are two types of nuclear reactions. Fission occurs when large nuclei are split into smaller fragments. Fusion occurs when small nuclei are put together to make a bigger one. Here's the amazing thing. Either way - whether it's fusion or fission - energy is released as a result of the nuclear reaction.
Let's look at an example of each type of nuclear reaction. Nuclear fission is used to generate electricity in our nuclear power plants. Fission occurs when uranium nuclei are bombarded with neutrons. The neutrons hit and split the uranium nuclei into fragments. The fission releases a lot of energy and other neutrons as well. Those other neutrons, in turn, cause a chain reaction and cause other uranium nuclei to split, and additional energy is released. Nuclear power plants can generate a lot of electricity from a very small amount of uranium and no pollution released into the atmosphere. Nuclear fission, however, produces radioactive waste that is harmful to life and has to be properly stored.
Changes in Heat and Energy
Have you ever thought of ice as solid water? Did you know that steam is water as well? Water, as well as other matter, can exist in three states or phases, and we call them solid, liquid, and gas. As ice is heated, its temperature increases, and it melts into liquid water. Likewise, as liquid water is heated, it evaporates into water vapor. These changes from one phase to another are referred to as phase changes.
Did you know that the temperature of water doesn't increase when it boils? The water's temperature increases up to boiling and then remains constant as it boils. We will use diagrams that illustrate the relationship between temperature and heat to explain how this works. Before we do that; however, we need to describe the relationship between temperature and heat.
What is Temperature?
Let's discuss temperature first. You are likely familiar with temperature as it is a common topic of conversation. We express temperature in degrees Fahrenheit, degrees Celsius, and even Kelvin, which is an absolute scale. But what is temperature? Temperature is a measure of how fast the molecules of a substance are moving. The faster the molecules move within the substance, the higher the temperature. For example, hot water molecules move faster than cold water molecules.

Hot water molecules move faster than cold water molecules and create more energy.
Temperature can be defined as the average kinetic energy of a substance, where energy is the ability to do work. Kinetic energy is energy of motion and thus reflects how fast an object is moving. The faster the object moves the more kinetic energy it contains. The faster the molecules move that make up a substance, the greater the temperature of that substance.
What is Heat?
Now, let's talk about heat. As substances are heated on a stove, in a microwave, or by the sun, energy is added to the substance. Heat can be defined as the total amount of energy contained within the substance. Where temperature reflects the average amount of kinetic energy, heat reflects the total energy. For example, two liters of boiling water has the same temperature as one liter of boiling water. However, two liters contain more heat - that is, more total energy.
Heat and Temperature Are Related
Now let's consider the relationship between temperature and heat. As substances are heated, the temperature increases. In other words, as energy is added to a substance, the molecules making up that substance move faster.
Diagram of Temperature and Heat
Now let's diagram temperature changes in water as heat is applied to the water. This will help us to understand the relationship between heat and temperature. Looking at the diagram on the screen, you will see temperature along the y-axis and heat energy along the x-axis. You can see that the temperature increases as heat is added to water within a phase. In other words, the water molecules within ice move faster.

Phase changes that occur when heat is added to water
However, temperature doesn't change as heat is added during a phase change; for example, when the ice melts. During the phase change, the added heat doesn't make the molecules move faster but rather further apart. The heat energy added during the phase change is used to overcome some of the forces that hold the molecules together, allowing them to move further away from each other. During the phase change, the added heat energy is stored as potential energy, or energy of position, as the molecules are now further apart. This is kind of like setting a mouse trap. Potential energy is stored in the mouse trap when it is set; in other words, when the position is changed.
As heat is applied to liquid water, the molecules move faster and the temperature again increases. During the phase change from liquid to gas, the added heat is stored in the molecules as, once again, potential energy, and the temperature remains constant. The added heat is used to overcome the remaining forces that hold the molecules together within the liquid. This allows the molecules to move even further apart and form a gas. Once again, the heat energy during the phase change is stored as potential energy.

While the sun is an excellent source of energy, not all forms of life can utilize the sun's energy directly. This lesson describes how plants transform the sun's energy into potential energy stored in sugar, how living organisms utilize energy in sugar to perform work, and how the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration is necessary for life.
Energy and Life

Organisms use sugar as a source of energy to do work
All living things require energy to do the work necessary for survival and reproduction. This is true for bacteria, plants and animals. But what is energy? Energy is simply the ability to do work, where work is done when a force moves an object. Let's consider your own needs for a moment. You need energy to turn on and turn off your computer. You need energy to get out of bed in the morning. You even need energy to listen to this lesson and think about what it says. And, yes, you need energy to reproduce. So where does energy come from and how do we use it? On Earth, energy ultimately comes from the sun. Plants use the sun's energy to make sugar. Organisms, in turn, use sugar as a source of energy to do work.
In this lesson, we will explore how living organisms utilize energy. We will first consider how plants use energy from the sun to make sugar. Then we will explore how organisms use energy from the sugar to do work.
How Plants Transform Energy from the Sun
Plants use energy from sunlight to make sugar and oxygen from carbon dioxide and water. The process by which carbon dioxide and water are converted to sugar and oxygen using sunlight is referred to as photosynthesis. This is an endergonic reaction, meaning energy is required by the reaction. Specifically, energy is required to put the carbon dioxide and the water molecules together to form sugar. Sun provides the energy needed to drive photosynthesis, and some of the energy used to make the sugar is stored in the sugar molecule.

The sun provides the energy needed to drive photosynthesis
How Organisms Use Energy from Sugar
Now that we know how plants synthesize sugar, let's explore how organisms use the sugar as a source of energy. In short, organisms break down the sugar to release its stored energy. The energy released from the breakdown of sugar is used by the cells to make another chemical that we call adenosine triphosphate, or simply abbreviated ATP. The synthesis of ATP by cells is referred to as cellular respiration. This is an exergonic reaction as energy is released as a result of the reaction. Energy is released when the sugar is broken down into smaller parts: carbon dioxide and water. As you can see on the screen, sugar and oxygen are the reactants, and carbon dioxide and water are the products of cellular respiration. Does that reaction look familiar? Well it should, because cellular respiration is simply the reverse of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are related as the products of one become the reactants for the other. In fact, cellular respiration and photosynthesis are dependent on one another.

What is Astrophysics?
Astrophysics is the study of celestial objects such as galaxies, stars, black holes, planets, exoplanets, the Big Bang, dark matter, and dark energy. The study of cosmology is theoretical astrophysics at scales much larger than the size of particular gravitationally-bound objects in the universe.
Astrophysicists have contributed many important insights to our understanding of the universe we live in. They have discovered the approximate age and size of our universe, theorize how long our sun will last before it exhausts its nuclear fuel (dies), discover what the universe looked like billions of years ago, temperatures of planets, shapes of galaxies and the way that matter is distributed across the observable universe.
What Are We Doing With Astrophysics at the U of I?
The Center for Theoretical Astrophysics encompasses many different groups studying various aspects of astrophysics. The Illinois Relativity group focuses on the application of Einstein's theory of general relativity to forefront problems in relativistic astrophysics. The development and application of numerical relativity to tackle problems by computational means are major activities. The merger of binary compact objects (including binary black holes) and the generation of gravitational waves are areas of great interest.
The Cosmology group researches topics including but not limited to properties of clusters, Big Bang nucleosynthesis, extragalactic astronomy, the early universe, structure formation and the properties of dark matter and dark energy. Our work on the last three topics is being done in collaboration with the high energy physics group.
The Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics group is dedicated to the study of problems in astrophysics requiring numerical modeling where they often employ parallel computing.
Astrophysics at U of I is also pursued in the Department of Astronomy. All of the Physics faculty in astrophysics work closely with their colleagues in the Department of Astronomy and many have joint appointments.
What is Quantum Physics?
Quantum information science is the study of the often-bizarre-seeming features of quantum mechanics and their application to problems in information processing. These features include wave-particle duality, the principle of superposition, the intrinsic randomness of quantum mechanical measurement outcomes, and the phenomenon of entanglement. (Entanglement refers to the nonlocal correlation that can exist between quantum mechanical systems, even when the components are separated by large distances.) These phenomena are being applied to such tasks as quantum computation (which could allow an incredible speed-up over classical computation for certain types of problems); quantum cryptography (the only provably secure method of encryption, whose security is guaranteed by the laws of physics); and quantum metrology (by which measurements can be made with resolutions exceeding those allowed by classical physics).
What Are We Doing With Quantum Physics at the U of I?
Here at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, we are learning how to gain control over these exquisitely sensitive quantum systems. Photons, the tiny bundles that light travels in, act as our window into the quantum world. By using lasers as a source for our photons, we take advantage of one of their special properties: all of the photons emitted from a particular laser are quantum-mechanically identical. This allows the systematic study of how quantum systems react to manipulation, interaction with themselves, and measurement. In addition to investigating these individual photons, we can also create pairs of entangled photons. Each photon in an entangled pair contains information which is totally random, yet perfectly correlated with that of its partner. This seemingly paradoxical behavior is the essence of how quantum mechanics differs from classical mechanics. Our entangled photon source allows us to study the rudiments of quantum computing, is crucial to experiments in quantum cryptography, and provides extremely convincing evidence that the universe does not obey classical laws.
What is Biological Physics?
In 1944, physicist Erwin Schrödinger published a short book, What is Life?, that changed the course of modern biology.
Could the behavior of a living organism be explained solely by physics and chemistry? Yes, it could, Schrödinger answered. "The obvious inability of present-day physics and chemistry to account for such events," he wrote, "is no reason at all for doubting that they can be accounted for by those sciences."
It's a sentiment that has lured generations of physical scientists to biology.
For the past half-century, researchers have applied the rigorous tools of physics to help answer Schrödinger's question and unravel the fundamental mechanisms of life, but some of the most exciting challenges remain.
What Are We Doing With Biological Physics at the U of I?
The Experimental Biological Physics Research faculty's study includes, but is not limited to single-molecule methods, single-molecule fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy, nucleic acid and protein translocases, DNA protein interactions, molecular biology, structure and dynamics of biological macromolecules.
The Theoretical and Computational Biological Physics Research faculty's study includes such ideas as biomolecular modeling of molecular motors, multiscale modeling of pattern formation, photosynthesis, cellular mechanics, multiscale modeling of cells and bionanotechnology.

The contaminant around us Kh. Atiar Rahman

A substance may be a contaminant when its occupancy in air, water, or soil harms organism in question and as such bacteria and virus carriers such minute living thing can cause contamination in a significant manner. Pollutants harm humans in different ways where in high concentrations they can cause ill health and even death. These sort of pollutants which are horrifying in due sense can spread through food chains spoiling plants and animals and endangering human food supplies like fish, and they can cause dirt and obnoxious smells.

Atmospheric pollution

The principal inception of air contamination are the burning of coal and oil in houses and factories, and in the engines of cars, buses, airplanes and thus smoke assembled by burning contains small particles of dust which are mainly carbon. This dust calumniates the walls of the buildings and settles on the leaves of plants, limiting photosynthesis by cutting out light and limiting materialization by blocking stomata. Smoke contains sulphur dioxide that reacts with water vapour in air forming sulphuric acid causing damages the stonework of buildings, the leaves of plants, and the peoples lungs which vitally important for controlling breathing function. Garden bonfires can also be a source of hazardous pollution. If household rubbish including plastic and polystyrene is added to the fire, its smoke will contain up to 300 times more cancer-producing chemicals than cigarettes smoke, as well as cyanide, lead, dioxin, and other poisonous chemicals. There is no denying the fact that Petrol and diesel engines release fumes containing oxides of nitrogen and lead compounds. Once lead enters the body it cannot be removed by the excretory system. It collects in the body eventually causing damage, especially on the brain.

Mellifluous Pollution

The main source of water pollution is sewage from houses and farms, chemical waste from industry and agriculture, and spilled oil. Sewage can be made harmless but in many countries population growth has overloaded sewage handling works and untreated sewage is released into rivers and sea. Bacteria in water disintegrate sewage, but in lakes and slow-moving rivers this process uses up oxygen so briskly that fish, insects, and tadpoles, are missing. Industrial waste often manifests very venomous, long-lasting pollutants such as composites of cyanide, lead mercury, and mercury, and copper. These chemicals are jeopardous even in small cornucopia, because when they are discharged into streamlet and rivulet, they garner fish and other aquatic creatures. In this way these are amplified through food chains to water birds and sometimes humans.

In many recent farms poultry, cattle, and pigs are possessed in buildings and there is no other land on which to use the fertilizer that they produce. The manure is released into local streams and rivers where it decomposes and reduces oxygen levels in the same way as untreated domestic sewage. Other pollutants attributable to modern farming methods include chemical sprays that kill insect pests and fungi that skirmish crop plants. If these chemicals enter rivers and ponds they can spread through out food chains in the same way as industrial waste.

Dispersion

Radiation such as X-rays and beta and gamma rays can cause various types of cancer, a blood disorder known as leukemia, and damage to the sperms and ova resulting in deformed babies. Natural radiation comes from outer space in the form of cosmic rays, and artificial radiation comes from certain medical and industrial processes. Little if any harm comes from these sources; but there is increasing concern about radiation from the testing of nuclear power to generate electricity will increase. There is always a risk in emitting radiation upon the surface where it is falling. The persons, who are always dealing radiation as routine job and research purpose, they need to be careful about such fission and fusion phenomena. If air is polluted by radiation, environment must be polluted in question and consequently many dreadful diseases may break out.

Meteorological pollution:

There are many ranges of barometric pollution problems currently alarming the earth's general environment; the problem arises from the acidic gases produced by burning fossil fuels in a different situations. The majority of power stations in industrialized countries burn coal or oil. Both these fuels are polluted with sulphur, which produces sulphur dioxide when it burns. The wind can carry acid rain clouds away from the industrialized centers, causing the pollution to fall on other countries. Besides this, oxides of Nitrogen dioxide are produced when thunderstorm blows or air are heated in furnaces or in vehicle petrol engines. Consequently, these gases dissolve in rainwater to produce acid rain. Due to acid rain, the following adverse effects are observed:

·         Limestone buildings and statues are worn away.
·         Lakes and rivers are acidified, and the presence of metal ions leached out of the soil damages the gills of the fish and as such the fishes can die.
·         The nutrients are leached out of the soil and from leaves. Trees are deprived of these nutrients. Aluminum ions are freed from the clay as Aluminum sulphate and damage the roots of the trees. The tree is unable to draw up water through damaged roots and it dies. Due to depletion of ozone layer, a protective layer of ozone in the stratosphere prevents harmful ultra-violet radiation reaching the earth surface ozone layer remains depleted.
·         Chlorofluorocarbons and other halogen compounds are formed due to the depletion of ozone layer, which causes the damage of human beings and plants in question, for which restrictions have been imposed to use such compounds virtually by International agreement.

In view of the above it is evident that if the situation were tolerable to grow worse, preamble to higher levels of ultra-violet radiation could effect more cases of skin cancer in human and cause crops to a great extent. That is to say, in burning chemicals and bricks, poisonous gas emit and as such sulphur dioxide gas, Nitrogen dioxides and carbon monoxide gas are produced in atmospheric layer and consequently, acid rain occurs. This sort of acid rain causes trees to destroy and soil to pollute and poisonous. As a result of creating such dangerous pollutants, our lives are becoming risky and health hazards. Besides this, the problems of green house effects are throughout the world for which we should find out ways and means to solve the impediments, which create health exposure in our every day life. The CFC gas is the product of tremendous effects of greenhouse chattels and as a result, our environment is being polluted creating great health vulnerability in question. The fact is that due to awesome increase of CFC gas and carbon dioxide, ozone layer is consequently licked and the ultra-violet ray from the Ionosphere is in the way to hit the earth directly for which the surface temperature is gradually increasing and the ice is melted and the depth of the sea is also being increased. It is hoped in future that in course of time, the earth will be inundated under water. It has been observed in recent years survey that due to tremendous indiscriminant use of ploy-ethane bags, pollution are occurring to a great extent. In the world, wastage is being observed but these are being recycled in a developed process, which are the consequences of better technology and scientific research. In order to remove such pollution, a better technology and strong recycling process are needed for which new bags are possible to be made. Besides this, we need to be careful about dealing wastage for which prospective and alternative measures are keenly emphasized in a systematic manner. We know that the plants and trees are vitally important in order to make our environments healthy and sophisticated to live peacefully in the world. On the other hand, due to lack of trees, adverse situations prevail in the atmospheric layer like increasing carbon dioxide and dust particles. If this type of gas is increased in the layer, our environment becomes barren and unsuitable for living. We use oxygen in our inhalation and give out carbon dioxide as a general flow of breathing function. Trees give us shadow and fruits for which our survival on earth becomes easy and comfortable. We need trees in order to make our environment free from pollution. Hence, it is widely recognized that due to enormous use of plants and trees, we are always facing the situations of health hazard and for which the government is careful to plant trees in place of the trees cut down. Since the plants and trees are being cut down to a great extent, the amount of lands have been reducing day by day for which the scarcity of cultivable lands are being observed tremendously. As a result of being extinct the forests, the number of animals, birds and other creature living in woodland are being reduced to a great extent. The main weapon to fight against extinction is self-awareness and consciousness. It has to come within everybody that we have to possess the feelings of responsibility and environmentalism, in order to build a better world -a world full of evergreen beauty and spirited animals and for these purpose, the following steps may be taken in due course.

·         Following and whaling should be absolutely proscribed
·         Deforestation needs to be counteracted
·         The use of ivory and furs needs to be declared as a punishable crime imposing an exemplary penalty in question.
·         National parks and nature reserves should be created
·         The natural habitats of endangered species should be preserved.

If these tactics of measures are accomplished instantaneously, then it may be anticipated an optimistic upshot that a man can see the dawn of a new era in the history of the world, which will be even more eye-catching if we are engrossed to be humiliated with one another by forsaking all sorts of enmity and quarrelsome activities from the social life.

The concept of global warming

The concept of global warming envisages the warming of the atmospheric layer where the volume of the Carbon dioxide gas is tremendously increased. The state of growing up of Carbon-di-oxide exists due to shortage of plants and trees and green house effects. This global warming is a threat to the survival of polar bears of arctic regions. Polar bears are ferocious and killer animals but they have a vital role to keep the environment free from pollutions. And as such our environment remains healthy and upkeep due to survival of such mischievous animals on artic regions..We are conversant that the ultraviolet ray emit from the sun and due to tremendous increase in atmospheric layer, ozone layer is licked and ultraviolet  rays pass through he ozone layer and fall into the surface of the earth.. As a result, the earth’s surface layer is warmed up and ultimately, the height of the sea level goes up. In this respect, the modern scientists believe that one day, the earth will remain inundated under water. Due to the global warming taking place into the arctic region, ice melts down and as such polar bears find difficulties to survive on earth. In this case, some polar bears are found missing and somehow, some survive through continuous suffering and painstaking efforts. The polar bears who somehow survive find less food during this time. When their hibernation starts, they cannot be able to save sufficient food reserves in the form of fat inside their bodies. Thus, due to colossal effects of global warming, polar bears are being died out day by day.

Polar bears are of great use to us as it destroys poisonous insects and other dust particles which are wasted away by tremendous flow of current in the sea level. A Polar bear is a gigantic animal which damages all sorts of debris ahead of them while locomotion. It develops a separate entity inside the arctic region and survives for years together. No separate entity is to be developed around the globe outside arctic region. There is no denying the fact that the Polar Bears are dreadful animals and as such hunting of polar bears is difficult. The smelling power of polar bear is very high for which it can easily learn the whereabouts of the prey. The hunter generally shoots from a long distant apart to the polar bear and suffice it to say, it is very cumbersome to reach them by haunting but it is tamed by long time technical training and observation thoroughly the nature of the animals.

Canada is homespun to circa 16 000 of the appraised 20 000–25 000 polar bears in the global polar areas. It is no wonder that the polar bear, an image of Canada’s wildlife tradition, is of great cultural significance to the Canadian people. For the Inuit and many northern societies, polar bears are especially noteworthy culturally, spiritually and economically. Canada has a sole preservation concern to safeguard these iconic creatures. This is one reason why Canada has puffed-up investment in observing efforts in current years. Canada’s portfolio schedule for polar bears is designed to ensure that there are up-to-date population estimates for all 13 subpopulations that ensue in that country. While monitoring is thought-provoking due to the distant and inhospitable environment of the Arctic, population estimates can help ensure that management and upkeep actions are germane.

In view of the above, global warming is a great threat to the survival of the polar bears, a wide ranging dangerous species throughout the world. Global warming is the upswing in the middling temperature of Earth’s atmosphere and oceans since the late 19th century and its projected continuance. Since the early 20th century, Earth’s average surface temperature has augmented by about 0.8 °C (1.4 °F), with about two-thirds of the rise occurring since 1980. Reheating of the changing system of the climate is unambiguous, and scientists are more than 90% certain that it is principally caused by growing absorptions of green gases formed by human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels anddeforestation. These findings are documented by the national science academies of all foremost industrialized nations.[

The concept and principles of accounting

There is no denying the fact that accounting rules have been updated in course of time, which shows that every time a new accounting dilemma arises, the predicament has to be analysed and a solution hunted. Many accountants consider that what is mandatory is a abstract framework, rather than this gradually loom. In general terms, a conceptual framework is defined as “a statement of generally accepted theoretical principles which form the frame of reference for a particular field of enquiry”. Unfortunately, so far it has not been possible to decide on a coherent conceptual framework which resolves all problems in accounting, although it is possible that this will evolve over time. For the moment accounting standards are set to deal with problems in separate areas and theoretical inconsistencies remain. Fundamental concepts Despite the difficulties with a conceptual framework, it has been possible to identify some ideas of special significances. There are many concepts in accounting but four in particular are considered fundamental, namely:
• Going concern
• Consistency
• The prudence concept
• The accruals (or “matching”) concept
We will now discuss each of these in turn.
• Going Concern – From an accounting point of view, the going concern concept arises from the periodicity rule and assumes that the business will continue in the foreseeable future, unless we have evidence to the contrary. Why this continuation is so important, is that it underpins the measurement basis for the financial statements. If the enterprise is not a going concern, then the measurement and accounting rules will be different. Please note that the concept takes on additional importance for the auditor who will be stating to the users that the going concern basis has been used, unless the auditor believes to the contrary. EXAMPLE A shop is closing down. Normally where there is a continuing business stock would be valued at the lower of cost (what it paid for it) or net realisable value (what it can get for selling it). One would expect this to be cost, as the net realisable value will be higher where the shop is continuing to trade profitably. But if the shop is ceasing to trade it will sell off its stock for whatever (low) price it can get. In this case the accounts will use net realisable value which will be lower than stock.
• Matching - The concept of accruals and prepayments is embodied in the matching concept. By using either an accrued charge or a prepayment, the financial statements are adjusting to reflect what the business has consumed economically, as distinct from consuming in cash terms only. The payment of rent in advance is common business practice. The period in which it is paid is generally prior to the period in which it is consume
